My now Husband and I were waiting to save at least 5gs to have a the DIY wedding of our dreams. About 2.5 years ago we created a small vision board of our goals and what we wanted to do together. On the vision board there are pics of a car, vacation, wedding, the words be happy, live healthy, Organic, even a pic of a girl riding a bike (Cause I still don’t know how to), Happily Ever After, and of course the words God and Church are in the middle.
Here’s the fun part.
After we were Baptized, we wanted to receive our blessing as a couple and we had the marriage talk… We didn’t know how we were going to fund our complete wedding. I had an idea of the amount needed, plus being the crafty lady I am – I would be able to cut lots of costs making things myself. I am also big on Goodwill, Etsy, Ebay, Craigslist, Garage Sales, Free-Cycling and even Borrowing.
We put it out there…
We asked for a loan and received the entire loan as our wedding gift. The budget was set – our list grew! The budget doubled! But the Lord sent aid our way in every possible way. From money for the wedding, to our reception space, to our pastors and church brothers and sisters making sure our event ran smoothly, to friends who came and spent time crafting, designing, putting up an arch, cleaning, printing, arranging flowers, singing, making my hair piece, doing my make up and hair, making doily garlands, setting up on the day and gifting me their time and talents.
As far as the HAPPY GIVER who funded our wedding – he called the day before the wedding to tell me how a check for almost the same amount he gifted us was mailed to him out of no where. This check was not at all expected and came from the job he had retired from a year prior! Coincidence, I think not! The Lord blesses all happy givers.
As the months went by…
Between my family, friends, church family, and us making the preparations – the wedding plans became a reality, we had more than enough funds for everything we needed. Our church family volunteered to help and I had many brothers and sisters do different things to make it work – my blood brother and sister and her husband, my nieces, my parents, my pastors, their wives, my best friend, and other friends who helped on the day of wedding with decorations, setting up flowers, buffet, you name it! It was TONS of work and it all happened and it was an amazing once in a lifetime event.
We set the date. We set the Intention.
We ended up with the wedding of our dreams – with over 130 guests, plenty of delicious Cuban Food, a Delish Cake, Yummy treats, glass bottled soda and cider! No Alcohol was served, no booty shaking happened but we did get a few friends who mentioned how much they enjoyed the ceremony and who had forgotten about how great our God is and how grateful they were for being part of our event.
In the end, the lord blessed us with a FREE wedding and plentiful gifts which we used to build our emergency fund – we were also able to donate to certain people who were in need and give a small offering to church as well.
We had no idea that this would happen… But what if we waited 1 year to save for the wedding? I would’ve lost my mind sleeping next to my lovely boyfriend as if I was his best pal… Maybe he would’ve lost it first – IDK!
In 2010 I made a huge leap which lead me to where I am today, I went thru a break up with a life that I wasn’t happy or successful with. It takes intention setting and I always say, actions speak VERY LOUD! Make sure you are listening.
Today, We have been able to take about 3-4 items out of our vision board. We bought our cute lil’ white hatchback car, we had our wedding, we went on a mini vacay, the Lord and Church are a big part of our lives, and trying to eat healthy everyday. (I STILL CAN’T RIDE A BIKE THOUGH)
At the moment I am working on creating a gratitude board which is where these items will go.
Take the leap. I am learning everyday to trust in Lord and to let him guide the way. We all meet because we are meant to meet. God places the right people in our paths to learn, grow, fail, excel, love, and he holds our hand through it all. Live in gratitude and be grateful for everything and for everyone – Be grateful for even the rotten times (I know is not easy) – But this is the way we are taught our lessons.
I have learned “whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Galatians 6:7” and “And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. Mark 4:24” – Leave it all to God, for he is a loving faithful God.
Awww and Give Lots of Love & Ask for more to be sent your way. CELEBRATE!
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all-sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.
Psalm 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge
